Principal's Report

Dear Parents,

What a strange old world we live in! On the week we invited parents into our classroom for the first time this year, after such a tumultuous year last year, we had to finish our expo night early due to the re-introduction of restrictions. Now for the fourth time we are back into remote and flexible learning.  How ironic.

As always however, the community of Mackellar comes to the fore and embraces remote and flexible learning, as fortunately or unfortunately depending on how you look at it, we have all become very accustomed to pivoting ourselves to suit.

Having met with each of the Team Leaders last week, I was not surprised to hear that all of the staff have swung back into remote learning with ease.

There are very clear and consistent approaches to learning tasks and expectations from prep through to grade 6.  Our teachers are using the technology available to them to ensure, as best as one can, that the learning needs for all children are being met, ably supported by our wonderful team of integration aides.

And the students? Well they have taken it all in their stride.  Even our youngest students are quite adept at logging on to various apps, making voice notes, uploading work, using the functions of apps to stimulate their learning and collaborating with their teacher and other students with ease.

To assist with any questions you have, this link takes you to the Department of Education's website for all things remote learning.

With fingers crossed we will be out of lockdown later this week and finish the term with some solid teaching and learning which will be reported to you in your child's semester one report due to you in the last week of term.  As mentioned in Xuno correspondence, the curriculum day scheduled for Friday June 11th has been cancelled.  If the lockdown has ended, then students will be required on-site from this day onward.

For those families whose children were attending swimming, we are in contact with the swimming pool to determine dates to make up for lessons lost.  We will be in touch with you all once dates have been finalised.

Until then I hope you and your family stays safe; that we all abide by the restrictions for the sake of our community at large, and that this lockdown is the last lockdown.  But then again who knows.

Regards,

Simon McGlade
