University pathways for IB students

Our Year 12 students are currently considering options for their future pathways, with many in the process of completing early entry university applications. As part of the university application process, universities are increasingly looking for more than just academic achievement. They also require students to demonstrate the application of ‘soft skills’ such as emotional intelligence, resilience, collaboration, creativity and commitment.

The IB Diploma Programme is designed as a pre-university course, with students developing high-order skills in research, critical and creative thinking, communication, collaboration and self-management over the two years. The core elements Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Creativity Activity Service (CAS) and the Extended Essay (EE) culminate to showcase these skills and provide opportunities for students to confidently demonstrate their readiness for university and beyond.

Australian and international universities recognise the IB Diploma as a rigorous credential with the development of these desirable qualities embedded within the programme. The International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) and IB world schools work directly with universities to ensure application pathways for all IB graduates, taking into account the rigor of the passing requirements. IB graduates are highly sought after, and this was evident in a recent meeting I had with key staff from Charles Sturt University to explore ways we can directly support our IB students. It is very encouraging to foster these partnerships and to experience the enthusiasm for the IB Diploma programme that is shared by so many in our local community.
