Music Academy Lunchtime Concert Series

Our Music Academy has presented a series of Lunchtime Concerts this week, with one more concert to take place next Wednesday. Students of flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, violin, viola and cello have presented performances in the MaD Space at 1.00pm each day. Parents and students have attended, providing an appreciative audience for our young musicians. A selection of outstanding performers from the Lunchtime Concert Series will deliver an evening recital in Term 2.

Band

We finished our first semester of College Band on Monday. Our challenge was to manage a transition to our new after school rehearsal time. With over 40 students in attendance at our last rehearsal, we know that our new rehearsal time is working and here to stay. Thank you to students and parents for your commitment to this important ensemble, which is the cornerstone of our ever-growing Music Ensemble Program. Next term we will be inviting parents for an open rehearsal and performance evening to celebrate the learning in College Band.

Strings

Year 3/4 Strings gave their first ever performance in the MaD Space today. Parents and staff made an outstanding audience for this “pizzicato” performance. Pizzicato is an Italian music terminology word meaning “pluck”. Our first term of learning for Years 3/4 comprised “pizzicato” playing only. In Term 3, our mini-stringers will pick up the bows and play “arco” (with the bow). Our Senior School ensembles, String Sinfonia and Senior Strings, also performed at the concert, allowing our Junior students and the parents to see and hear how strings sound after many years of study.
