PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

The end of each semester is often a time for reflection. It is always a time of fatigue for students, staff and families as we all finalise a semester of learning, teaching and everything else that comes with the 21st century Independent School experience.

Last night I received the reports for my own children which sparked conversations around the excellent teaching and learning they have engaged in this year. Report writing is a core element of the life of a teacher and the final product we receive as parents takes an enormous amount of time and effort from all areas of the College. The process begins long before the final delivery of reports, with the Deputy Principal: Teaching, Learning and Innovation – Mr Anthony Heffer meeting with all Faculty Heads to seek input in framing the context of reports. This includes deciding on the language used to describe outcomes and learning that has occurred throughout the semester. The Deputy Principal: Head of Campus – Mr Trevor Howard and his team design all the templates and manage the timelines for submission, quality control and all of the administrative aspects and communication regarding Parent/Teacher Conferences.

Faculty Heads lead their teams to ensure high-quality teaching and learning meet the requirements of NESA and the IBO, and ensure the timely completion and submission of tasks throughout the semester – as well as teaching their own classes. In 2021, Mrs Chacon and the Junior School team have designed new reports for all K – 6 students in collaboration with Mr Howard, Mr Heffer and their teams. The academic staff – well, they are simply outstanding professionals. I have enormous respect for teachers everywhere, but the team at The Riverina Anglican College are something pretty special. Just this semester, the teachers at the College have written 7713 individual student subject reports... while still teaching classes and running cocurricular offerings.

When thinking about the cocurricular program here at the College, in Semester 1, there were just under 140 different opportunities outside the classroom for students to learn, develop friendships, meet new people from our local area (and around the state) and move beyond their comfort zone and challenge themselves. Thank you to all of our parents and students for their support and involvement in these events and to all staff involved in making these offerings such a success.

As I sign off for the final time in Semester 1, I would like to wish all of our families and staff a safe and relaxing holiday break and thank the brilliant team at the College for the exceptional service they have given the College and our community. To look back over this first six months, it is important to appreciate the richness and diversity of the range of experiences the students of The Riverina Anglican College have been able to engage in:
