Year Three
Thursday, Week A means computer lab for Year 3. During this lesson, the girls explored the Paint app. They learned how to draw a perfect circle and a perfect square, use the different types of drawing tools, change the background colour, and how to use many other really cool features of this app.
‘Spirit of Jesus Spies’ and MJR Nominees
We are at it again. The Year 2 students, with the help of some Year 5 Navy students, are out and about seeking out kind acts in the playground. Their list is ever growing and it is fabulous to see our students looking after one another.
This also works in partnership with the MJR nominees where teachers have been nominating a student from their class who is acting as Jesus would and being a role model to their peers. You can see who has been nominated from Years 5 and 6 by looking at our MJR Board near the canteen. Next class up will be Year 4.
Year Five visit to the Cascade Female Factory
On Wednesday 19 May, both Year 5 classes went on an excursion to the Cascade Female Factory to finalise our unit What’s In A Story? Our journey would start at MacQ1 and would end at the factory; a walk we would all do together.
At MacQ1 we saw convict statues created by Irishman Roman Gillespie, which were very interesting, that told the story of Irish women arriving in Hobart Town and their hardships and hope. When walking through Franklin Square we saw a statue of Sir John Franklin and one of William Crowther which has been reinterpreted by Tasmanian Aboriginal artist Allan Mansell.
We then walked the Hobart Rivulet track which the convict women and children would have walked after disembarking at Hunter Island. At the female factory site, which is on the world heritage list, our guide explained the various yards and signs. It is such a sad place and we learnt so much about the convict women, the way they were treated and the history of the place.
We are grateful for this experience and the opportunity to learn more about our convict history.
