Field Day

The Mount Carmel College Field Day was held on Friday 21 May at the University Sports Grounds.  It was a very pleasant Autumn day, perfect conditions for both running and supporting.  Proceedings were kicked off with a relay involving teams from across all year groups.  It was hotly contested, with lots of cheering and fun for all, setting the scene for the day.  Then the cross country races commenced with the  youngest races first, while the Secondary students participated in activities on the top oval.  Year groups rotated throughout the day, running their races, playing some fun activities, and cheering for their house teams and class mates.

Thanks to staff and spectators that helped contribute to a great day and the Davey St Garage coffee van, for the warm drinks.  Congratulations to all the students that tried so hard, and for their enthusiasm and support of fellow school mates.

The final results from the day and top 3 place getters in each year group were and follows:

1st place: Carmel 1698 points

2nd place: Loreto 1637 points

3rd place: Lourdes 1554 points

Maddie Marshall and Riley Bain
Maddie Marshall and Riley Bain

The Primary Cross-Country team commenced their season with the STCPSSA (Catholic Schools) event yesterday and will run again at the JSSATIS event on Thursday 10 June, both held at the Rokeby Police Academy.

Fortunately the weather was fine yesterday, and the students really enjoyed the events.  All the participants showed great team spirit, cheering on their team mates in other races and congratulating each other on their efforts.

The Year 5 group in particular did extremely well, with Maddie Marshall and Riley Bain leading the event the whole way.  Maddie took the honours on the finish line, closely followed by Riley.  Grace Kinder finished in 8th and Elka Kuylaars in 9th. Sophie Halliday in Year 4 also finished 9th.

Year 7-10 Team

The Schools Water Polo competition is up and running on a Friday evening this term.  The College has both a Year 5/6 team and a Year 7-10 team competing in the roster this season.

All players in the Year 5/6 team are new to water polo.  It’s been wonderful to see how quickly the team is improving under the guidance of Zoe Fava and Year 9 student Lita White.  Despite two early defeats, the team celebrated their first win, 10 - 8 against the combined Collegiate/Hutchins team.  The team is really enjoying the roster and are looking forward to the remainder of the season.

The combined Year 7-10 team have had a promising start to the 2021 season. Currently placed 5th on the ladder, the Year 7-10 team have enjoyed a recent 18-4 win against Clarence High, and a 9-6 win against The Friends’ School.  Year 10 students, Maya Chapman and Charlotte Webb are currently the leading goal scorers, with 18 and 21 goals, respectively.  Thanks to past students Mikayla Cooper and Elly Muller for coaching the team.

Thanks to all the support from families particularly with transport to trainings and games, and assistance with scoring.
