Reconciliation Week
Sharon Himson - Key Teacher Indigenous Perspectives.
Primary students rocked to the lyrics of the Warrumpi Band in Reconciliation Week led by the dynamic and talented Naarah Barnes. After sharing reconciliation stories in their classroom, students arrived to our Friday workshop with heartfelt messages to our First Nations Peoples. The stories, Once There was a Boy and Finding Our Heart, carried concepts of breaking hearts, mending hearts and acting with heart.
Central to the workshop was this year’s Reconciliation Week Theme More Than A Word. Students were encouraged to act bravely with justice and compassion.
Students shared their messages in yarning circles during the workshop. Their messages were insightful and quite moving. These are currently displayed in the windows of the O'Brien Resource Centre.
Our workshop concluded with awards for students who had been seen ‘Acting With Heart’.
Thank you to Naarah Barnes and the Primary teaching staff who promote justice and Indigenous perspectives with our students.
