Making Connections...

At Sunshine Heights we are really proud of our families, our students and our connection to each other. One group of people who do a phenomenal job in bringing our students, families and teachers together are our Educational Support Staff. Last Sunday (16th May) was Educational Support Staff Day, and we recognise the incredible contribution they make to our school and the connections we have with each other. They are often the glue that holds our school together and we can't thank them enough for the passion and commitment they bring to Sunshine Heights PS. If you see a member of our ES team, walk through the library or pop via the office, please remember to share with them how much they mean to you!

Grade 2 students shared their thoughts with me about 'What makes a good learner' at Sunshine Heights Primary School. I loved how they connected their classroom experience with being courageous as writers, collaborating with their peers and demonstrating commitment by being resilient learners. There is a clear link between our social emotional literacy and being a great learner; with this in mind our grade 3 - 6 students recently took the Resilient Youth Survey. Our grade 5/6 students will soon explore the results and take action as we make our learning environment even better, so that every student feels like they are thriving.

Our Grade 3 and 5 students have today completed the NAPLAN online assessment. This is only one assessment of many that students undertake, and it was great to see them feel comfortable as they demonstrated their knowledge and understanding. I wanted to thank parents and carers particularly for supporting our students in the last few weeks, bringing them for catch up assessments if they were absent and helping them approach the assessments with an open and courageous attitude. I know our teachers are also very proud of the students and we look forward to seeing their successes later in the year.
