VET Sport & Recreation
On Friday the 12th of February we visited the YMCA at Northcote. The first activity that we did was a spin class, which was 30 minutes of cycling with alternating difficulties. We gradually increased the levels that made it harder and harder, and sometimes had to get up off the seat and increase the level as if we were riding uphill. After the spin class we then did a 30-minute boxing session outside. We had to pair up and one person was boxing while the other person was wearing the focus pads. We did a lot of different types of punches and exercises.
The staff at Northcote YMCA were really nice and gave us a full tour of their premises. We got to have a look at everything they had, which included the indoor and outdoor pools, their fitness areas, and the behind the scenes room of the machinery to put the chlorine in the pools. We took a lot from the excursion, as we got to get a lot of information of what it is like to run a business; the goals the organisation were working towards, their current tasks at hand, the improvements to the gyms and pools, and the budgetary goals like memberships and number of members a year. We can now put all of this information into understanding the current work we have learnt, and the work we will be learning in future.
