The Year 7 Family Picnic was a great success and presented a fabulous opportunity for families to connect with each other, their child’s new friends, and teachers plus be entertained by our fabulous music students. Other activities include a race around the school and. a marketplace .showcasing the various student/staff run clubs that are a signature of our vibrant school. Thank you to Gerard O’Shaughnessy (Head of Junior School), Jaymie Metcalfe and Luke Slingsby for their leadership of this event and to all staff who generously supported the event. Inner North Community Foundation and North Fitzroy and Clifton Hill Community Bank also joined us on the night.
Thriving and Surviving the VCE provided lots of opportunities for families to speak with each other, supported by the delivery of key information regarding managing the rigours of VCE by Shane Gemmola (Head of Senior School). Highlights of the night are always the guest presenters; Jacqui Ryan mother of Katie and Henry who both completed Year 12 in 2015 was brilliant as were graduates Darcy Cornwallis and Sanda Naing.
Building and Library Fund
2016 is a very exciting year for Northcote High, with a number of facilities projects in the planning pipeline. See the attached link to the campus master plan news. We encourage you to partner with us to support the development of great learning spaces at Northcote High by making a tax deductible donation. You will receive a request in the mail in the next week.
Project 1.
The Performing Arts Hub to be built on the St Georges Road initial funding is $3million allocated by Government, but this falls short of what is required for the level 2 VCE centre and fit out of the black box theatre with retractable seating, curtaining, lights and sound.
Project 2.
The decanting of three art/design spaces from the current A Block into the Art and Design Hubs (B and C Block).
Project 3.
The ongoing upgrade of the school grounds and student passive/social spaces.
New initiative - VCE English for all Parents
This year we are also partnering with Textfactor to run a Guided Book Club focused oon the VCE English texts the first being Burial Rites: Thursday March 3, 7.30-9pm in the school library, $25 per session For more information and to register now go to www.thetextfactor.com.au
Read the book, register, then have fun talking about this year 12 English text and meet other parents navigating the secondary years.
Guided Book Club is facilitated by literary expert, Dr Rose Lucas.
Annual General Meeting - Tuesday 22 March 2016 – Join us to hear about Northcote High Schools work and achievements across the 2015 school year, plus the what, why around key projects.
The highlight of the AGM will be guest presenter Tom Bentley.
Tom is a policy advisor to governments, academic, author, social commentator and advisor to the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation around all matters education and of course he is also a NHS parent.
The focus of the three key celebration events will be, the establishment of the school its ongoing commitment to partnering with community, providing excellent learning opportunities and outcomes for young people for 90 years and the schools contribution to state education and teaching.
The Launch
James Merlino Deputy Premier and Minister for Education will be launch the 90 year celebrations. There will be three key events:
Featuring past/present students and staff, school council presidents, representatives from neighbourhood schools, and Darebin Council and the Department of Education and Training.
Featuring school photos and memorabilia plus David Wadelton’s photos of Northcote through the Decades.
This will be an early afternoon/evening gathering featuring opportunities to review photos and memorabilia and catchup with students and staff form your time at the school.
