What's Happening at CHPS

Sports News

Interschool Sport

This week our teams will be playing against Dorset – Blue Teams and Yarra Road PS – Red Teams.  We usually don’t play against Yarra Road, as they are not in our District, due to the size of the school.  However, both of our schools had a Bye this week, so we thought we may as well play a fun practice game.  For parents wishing to go and watch their children play, you are more than welcome as the Covid restrictions have been eased, therefore you can attend.

District Cross Country Competition

The Cross Country squad have been hard at training the past few weeks and are improving their pace each time they run. The top 10 in each age group will be attending next Wednesday at Quambee Reserve in North Ringwood.  Parents will not be allowed to drive their car or park in the reserve as this will be blocked off, however you can park in Wonga Road and walk in.  Spectators are welcome.  In fact, I do actually need about 4 parents to assist with the finishing line area, as all schools must supply parental help for supervising different areas.  If you wish to help out, please let me know so that I can allocate you a job.

The competition starts at 9.40am, starting with the 12/13 Boys, then 12/13 Girls etc. ending with the 9/10 Girls.

House Athletics Competition

Well, third time lucky in booking the Athletics, we were able to snap 2 days at the Ringwood Athletics Track on Wednesday 2nd June for the Middle School and Thursday 3rd June for the Senior School.  We did have a booking in Term 3, however Middle School Production happens to be at that time, then Naplan took over our second booking, so the first week of June it is!   Please check your Compass and make sure that you consent and pay for the bus so that your child can have fun on that day and experience a real athletics track, at the same time as wearing their House Colours.

We do need quite a few parents to assist on the day with different jobs, mainly at the finishing line.  We will be using the iPad and Sprint Timer to capture the finishing line, but then there are points, coloured tags etc to hand out.  There are also jobs at the starting line as well.  Please let us know if you are able to help out with this.  Some of the classes also need a parent to be the third adult on the bus for numbers, so you may be hearing from your classroom teacher also.

The District Athletics Sports is not until September 1st, so we have quite a bit of time during Term 3 to do some track training and to select our field events as well.

Soccer Clinic for Juniors

The past four weeks have seen the Junior PE classes being taken by Jake Besenyi from the Futbol Academy, running through some drills and skills and some fun games. This week is his last week and he has absolutely loved being at our school and having fun with our students. The students were given a flyer a few weeks ago, but if anyone is interested in continuing soccer feel free to contact Jake through Facebook or Instagram @bfafutbol – 0421 093 808.

Library News

Our Book Fair is on next week!

The Book Fair will run from Monday 24th May to Friday 28th May. The Library is closed for classes and borrowing for this week. The books are on display and available for purchase (although copies of popular books do run out and these need to be prepaid and I have to order them).

Opening times for the Book Fair are:

                                                   Monday 24/05/21                 8.30 - 9.30am

                                                   Tuesday 25/05/21                8.30 - 9.00am

                                                                                                       3.00 - 4.00pm

                                                     Open Night      6.00 - 7.15

This gets extremely busy. If you can come at another time it will be a far more pleasant experience.

                                                         Wednesday 26/05/21            8.30 - 9.00am

                                                                                                                3.00 - 4.00pm

                                                           Thursday 27/05/21                8.30 - 9.00am

                                                            Friday 28/05/21                      8.30 - 9.30am

Some of the times are designed so that you can come in without children if you want to purchase the books as gifts. Other times are designed so that your children can come in with you.

All classes will get a chance to come in and write out a wish list during the week of the Book Fair.  Some classes may come in after you have purchased books at the Book Fair.  If this happens with your child it is okay to remind them that they have already received books from the Book Fair, and therefore the wish list they have filled in is not required.  Some parents love the idea of a ‘Wish List’, others hate it!  We do remind the children that it is a ‘Wish’ list and it doesn’t mean that they will necessarily get anything that they write down.  They are also reminded that the Library purchases books from the Book Fair and they can always suggest a book for the Library to buy.

Lamont is the company through which we are running our Book Fair this year.  This is a major fundraising opportunity for our school Library.

Payment can be made by cash, Visa or Mastercard.  We should have two EFTPOS machines available.  No AMEX is available.

PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE CHECKED IN USING ONE OF THE QR CODES LOCATED AROUND THE SCHOOL.

Looking forward to seeing you there.
