Attendance

We all want our students to get a great education, and the building blocks for a great education begin with students coming to school each and every day.

Missing school can have a major impact on a child’s future – a student missing one day a fortnight will miss four full weeks by the end of the year. By Year 10 they’ll have missed more than a year of school. There is no safe number of days for missing school – each day a student misses puts them behind, and can affect their educational outcomes.

The Department of Education and Child Development has a strategic objective to have 95% attendance in 2016 and beyond. In 2015 LNPS achieved 94.7%. To reach the target of 95% we have reviewed our Attendance Policy and Plan. Staff will be focusing on attendance each term and will be following up any unexplained absence.  The list below outlines what parents can do to support us achieving our goal.

Parent Responsibilities

  • Parents/ Caregivers are responsible for getting children to and from school punctually.
  • Arrival time is between 8:30 and 8:50am.
  • Late arrivals go directly to the front office to sign in and collect a yellow late slip to take to the class teacher.
  • Lateness requires an explanation by the parent or caregiver.
  • Early departures are also required to be registered at the front office and a blue early dismissal slip filled in and given to the class teacher.
  • The school requires an explanation for a student’s absence via phone call, email, written note or a medical certificate. After 3 days absence a written explanation is expected.

Please see the attached Attendance Policy for 2016.

2016 Annual General Meeting

The 2016 Annual General Meeting will be held on Monday 29th February at 8:50am in the Staff Room.  Governing Council has elected to host the AGM at this time to enable families who are unable to attend in the evenings.

There are two formal aspects to the AGM:

1. Reporting to the school community

2. Electing parents to the Governing Council

As LNPS undertook election by ballot through the newsletter last year the AGM will focus on reporting to the school community.  This will involve:

1. Presentation of the 2015 Governing Council achievements

2. Presentation of the 2015 Annual Report

3. Overview of the Site Improvement Plan

Morning tea will be provided and a coffee van will be available. We hope to see as many parents as possible.

Please see below for the agenda and minutes from the 2015 AGM.
