COVID Update and Term 3
I commend the Calrossy community for working together in Semester 1 in response to the ongoing challenges with COVID and higher community infection rates. Note that Health authorities have advised schools that COVID remains a risk to students and schools in Term 3. The emergence of new strains has Dr Kerry Chant warning that higher risks of community transmission will continue throughout August. Similarly, a nasty strain of Influenza is having an impact on the population, particularly with younger children and older Australians. Care and vigilance are advised.
Our School approach to COVID will remain similar to that of last term. We note the advice of health authorities that masks remain an effective protection against viruses and students are encouraged to consider using them, especially in places of close contact and limited air flow. Our catering staff will continue to use masks in food handling and they will be used in our Health centres. Regular handwashing and higher levels of cleaning practice will remain in place. Rapid Antigen testing of Boarders once a week will monitor infection rate amongst our Boarding community.
Things to note include:
- Once delivered, all day students will be provided with a box of Rapid Antigen tests for use during the month of August. Boarder families with a need may consult with the Health Centre if they are required. Weekly screen testing for Boarders will take place at school.
- Students who are ill (with either COVID or Flu) should remain at home.
- Those who come from a household in which there is an infected person should test daily prior to attending school.
- If a student is tested positive with COVID, please advise the school via katya.thomas@calrossy.nsw.edu.au
- Calrossy will monitor the infection rate of students and if necessary, respond with additional measures to support our community and keep students at school as best as possible.
I thank all members of the school community for responding so well to what has been an ongoing health situation, allowing high numbers of students to remain at school. We want to particularly support our Year 12 students as they commence their Trial HSC next week.
