Principal's message

Dear Parents/Carers,

And just like that another week is finished. Although we are seeing a lot of illness popping up we've also had some great things happen around the school.

DEBATING SUCCESS

Congratulations to our senior school debating teams who performed brilliantly at the Mozart Hall this week.

Our teams completed a very successful day taking out the competition. A special thanks goes to Bebe Ryan and Thom Fraser for leading and supporting our students.

It’s an illustration of our Literacy programs in action where speaking and listening is a major focus. Thom has a detailed report in the body of this newsletter outlining the outstanding success.

MEN’S SHED

It was my pleasure to attend the Men’s Shed with several students last Thursday. The students listened intently as they were instructed on the finer parts of measuring, drilling and sawing.

The old adage ‘measure twice cut once’ will never be forgotten as it was reinforced regularly. This is to be a weekly program for a group of students from Year 5/6.

Thanks must go to Danielle Toone for coordinating with Phil Pettingill and launching this program and to Ebony Van Der Starre for attending last week at short notice.

This is a fantastic program which works on the students’ fine and gross motor skills, reasoning and problem solving, collaboration with others and hands on experience.

We look forward to showcasing the projects as we complete them.

PUPIL FREE DAY

Thank-you to all families for supporting our school as we undertook a Pupil Free Day today. Teaching and Integration support staff were working with the ‘Real Schools’ team to further develop a whole school approach to student and staff well-being.

Over the last two and a half years well-being has been challenged throughout society and schools are no exception. We must continue to prioritise well-being because we know that when people are feeling well they are able to achieve the goals they set for themselves.

COMPASS

A friendly reminder that here at Warrnambool Primary School we use Compass, an online student management system which we use to communicate with our families. It's extremely important for your child's education that you regularly access Compass. The school often provides important information relating to a range of matters. For further information on how to access Compass please click on the following link https://www.compass.education/guide or call the office on 5561 5955.

COVID/FLU

It has been a difficult few weeks since the return to school with many students, staff and families battling Covid and the Flu. Please ensure that RAT tests are administered at the first sign of symptoms and report and isolate if positive.

We are also strongly encouraging indoor mask use for those students 8yo+ and all adults at school. This is in line with the latest advice from the Department of Education and Training Victoria.

ASSEMBLY

Unfortunately due to the significant presence of illness in our school community we will not hold an assembly this week.

Positive People and Specialist Awards will be presented in classrooms. Congratulations to all the students who were a recipient of an award this week. Keep up the great work!

Enjoy the weekend everyone!
