Principal's Report

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I would like to thank all the parents that have given me such positive feedback about the school lately.

The past two weeks have been very exciting with lots of terrific announcements and achievements which I’ve tried to list below. I also loved last week’s assembly with so many of our children wanting to help others in a charitable way.

Hoop Time

During last week our 3/4 students and our 5/6 students all competed in the Yarra Valley Hoop Time basketball competition. The best thing about Hoop Time is that students that have never played basketball before get to play against other students that are rookies to the sport. Our more experienced basketballers play against the top teams from other schools. Our students represented the school really well and made us very proud.

Mr Gibbons was very proud that our school won the most grand finals. He was also very pleased to see the improvement of skills in most of our students.

 More School’s Visiting Us

Last week another two schools visited our school to look and learn from our teachers. At Woori Yallock P.S. we are very happy to share our practice with other schools as we know educators learn very effectively from each other. Over the year we have had a number of schools visit us. The schools always comment on how amazing our orderly learning environment is and how good our schools’ students are at sharing their goals and learning expectations.

Curriculum Day

Student Free Day – Friday 26th August. The Department of Education and Training (DET) has granted all Victorian government schools a common staff Professional Practice Day (PPD) in term three. During the day, staff will be participating in professional learning sessions, to continue our school’s focus to improve the teaching of writing across the school. Our interim NAPLAN results this year are again really high. Our student survey results are also outstanding. Once we know where we sit compared to other schools, I will give you some further information. I do know however, that our fantastic school results are directly linked to the amount of investment we put into our teachers. Therefore, even though curriculum days are painful for parents they do help us to keep improving the standard of teaching and learning across the school.

Don't forget that care is available on the upcoming curriculum day, contact Melissa McDonald Out Of Hours School Care on 9736 2123 to book your child's place.

Poetry Celebration

Our poetry celebration open afternoon was simply brilliant. I think our school seems to be opening up its own ‘Dead Poets Society’. If you were one of the parents that braved our parking issues and traffic. I truly thank you for your commitment. We know that students will always do better writing if they are writing for a real purpose. I thought the standard of writing across the school was brilliant!

Pick up from classrooms at the end of the day

Please remember we would like all parents to wait outside classrooms until the bell goes at 3:10pm. This means please do not wait in the corridors or look and wave through classroom windows. The end of the day is never the easiest time for teachers. Having parents distract the students is really the last thing the teacher needs as they try to hand out notices and give instructions for the requirements for the next day. I hope our whole parent community will be understanding about this.

Prep Enrolments for 2023

We have officially cut any further Prep enrolments from outside our school zone for 2023. It is wonderful that so many families want to join our amazing Woori school community. However, to keep our class sizes in Prep as low as possible we are unfortunately unable to take any more applications or enrolments.

Have a great week!

And remember when life gets a little difficult, escape to the wonderful world of a book!
