Year 10 Work Placement 2022 Reflection
During the last week of Term 2, Year 10 students completed an immersive and experiential week of learning during the work placement.
Students had to independently find suitable employers and express their interest in completing their work placement, and then confirm their placement in the weeks leading up.
In a regional location, work placement is a highly important experience for students to undertake as they begin to consider their study pathways for Years 11 and 12, and beyond. It is a short-term placement of one week to provide MMCRC students with insights into their selected industry and the demands of the workplace itself. Students are placed with employers primarily to observe and learn — not to undertake activities that require extensive training or expertise.
It provided students with the valuable opportunity to:
- develop employability skills
- explore possible career options
- understand employer expectations
- increase their self-understanding, maturity, independence and self-confidence
During the first week of Term 3, the Year 10 cohort was required to compose a letter of thank you. These were emailed out, and students received some highly encouraging responses from their employers.
The Year 10 students and staff would like to express their gratitude to Mrs Damon for all of her hard work organising the program and ensuring that all of our students were encouraged to participate in this exciting opportunity.
The Year 10 students and staff of Mary MacKillop Catholic Regional College would like to express our appreciation and thanks to the following organisations and businesses that supported our Year 10 students to complete their work experience placements.
