Grade Three

Wow! It’s term 3!

So far, we have been having a wonderful time as we learn together. We started the term with our athletics carnival which was so much fun. It was cold but everyone enjoyed the events and the atmosphere of the day.

English

In English our students have been focusing on reading and writing activities with a non fiction focus. We have been discovering lots about the structure of information reports. The students have been provided with a weekly opportunity to use their writers’ notebooks and to choose the style of writing they prefer. Students have continued working through the writing process and have been able to publish their texts. Reading remains a huge focus and we have ensured that we have daily opportunities for students to independently read and also read out loud to a buddy and/or their teacher.

Mathematics

In mathematics students have enjoyed our daily hands-on activities which assist to improve their mental computation skills. We are also completing daily, times table drills and games. We started the term with a focus on number and place value. Recently it  has been  fantastic to start working on our ZOO unit. We are looking at money, time, area and perimeter as we design our zoo enclosures.  We are also using our developing knowledge of area to design a robot to serve food at our Zoo Cafe!

Integrated

This term our unit focus is Sustainability. We have been beginning our discovery of flora and fauna, biomes and animals. The students have also looked at the continents of the world which have been exciting and thought provoking. Our goal this term is to assist our students with their understanding of the importance of habitats for plants and animals which encourages us to think and act sustainably when we interact with the environment.
