SPOTLIGHT:
Community: Year 1/2
Focus: Use digital systems to present data creatively.
This term, I have been lucky enough to work with some students in the 1/2 Community. For our second session my focus group has been using some Unplugged Digital Technology work to Sequence and map out narratives. We looked at the fairytale ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears.’ The students knew the fairytale so well and were able to retell the story to me!
We used their knowledge to then map out the story together using the Beebot grid! It was so impressive to see how the students confidently used directional language to verbalise Goldilock's steps and to map out the story using sequencing cards and sequencing language. We discussed how the sequencing language “First, then, next, after that,” will be very helpful and handy when they begin writing their own Fractured Fairy Tale Narratives later this week in Literacy.
For our next session, we will finally be using the BeeBots to code our directions and tell stories to each other. I am looking forward to seeing how well the students code and navigate their characters around the board!
