SENSORY GARDEN

We have finally finished our Sensory Garden Project that we began in the early stages of this year!    We have spent the first few weeks of Term 3 planting native plants, laying out sand and gravel to form the foundation for our path and dug out the earth so that we could place bricks and various textures to form the path.    This garden is a place for all members of the school community to go to relax and feel safe when feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or disconnected to country. We want people to reconnect to country and nature in this welcoming and inclusive space.

We officially opened our garden with a welcome to country and a smoking ceremony by Darren Wandin, a Wurundjeri member, who provided us with an experience that many of us hadn’t encountered before.    We also welcomed back Cora Green, the local Indigenous artist,  who gave advice and helped to create the two murals that you will see in our garden.  It was a pleasure to have her there for the opening ceremony.

We encourage everyone to find the time to come and visit this space and provide the Year 12 VCE-VM class with feedback about their experience.
