Music News

All ensemble program ensembles participated in the Victorian Schools Music Festival over the past week, performing at Christian College’s R W Gibson Centre, and the Hawthorn Arts Centre. All groups received Silver Awards for their performances, a great result and reward for the hard work that students and staff have put in. Many thanks to Amanda Linton and Emma Moffatt for their preparation of Intermediate Jazz, Beginning Band and Intermediate Band. Special thanks to those students who gave up their time to assist junior groups in rehearsal and at the performances: Charlie Thompson, Lee Masters, Miranda Linton, Finn Ibrahim, Bob Yi, Olivia Masters and Braydn Beckwith Smith.  Their willingness to give their time to help others is one of the things that makes our music students such a fabulous group of people to work with.

Please see Ms Humphrey in the band room if you would like a ticket to this all ages, free event.

HAZELL will be performing at the event, so bring some friends and come along to support them!

The people’s choice and judges’ choice will both win a paid spot at the Freeza Headliner gig at Queenscliff Town Hall on 22nd of October. Rat Hammock and Hollie Joyce will be headlining this gig.

In further exciting news, the song BHS students wrote during the Songmakers program, has been selected for use on the APRA AMCOS/Songmakers website, and will play when people visit the site or click on the Songmakers link. This is great exposure for our young Songmakers, a first step into the music industry, and a tribute to the talent we have coming through our music program at BHS.

Senior Music student Harry Whelan will be performing as a Soloist at the upcoming Geelong Concert Band community concert on Saturday 19th August, at the RW Gibson Centre. Good luck Harry!

Year 1 and 2 Students are busy rehearsing for their next gig at Oxygen performance space on Monday October 11th. This is a great chance for our students to show their development since their last gig at the Barwon Club, and is always a great night of entertainment.

We say farewell to Gabe Brdar who has been filling in for Patrick Consedine this term. He has been a wonderful teacher, and we thank him for all his great work with the students.

Ensemble Program Hire

We ask that Year 7 students who are continuing with the program in Year 8 consider purchasing their own instrument. This allows us to offer incoming Year 7 students the opportunity to learn an instrument. For advice on the best instrument to buy, please contact your instrumental teacher, who can suggest the best purchase for your child.  Students learning larger or more expensive instruments such as double reeds, Tubas/French Horns etc, are welcome to continue hiring.
