Principals Report

Principal’s Report

Now 6 weeks into term it has been great to see so many students achieving terrific results with their mid-cycle reports. Make sure you go through Compass to see how your child has achieved.

Walking around into many classrooms I have been impressed with the level of engagement the students are sowing in their learning. Along with academic success we are seeing musical performances, sporting achievements, leadership development and so many other areas where our students continue to develop. I am continually impressed by the wide range of opportunities that teachers and support staff continue to offer the students of Belmont High.

There are several important events occurring during Term 3 that have impact on some classes running. Please see a list of these and the dates occurring:

  • Wednesday 23rd August – Student Casual Dress Day – Supporting Gotcha 4 Life an organisation supporting mental health in young people.
  • Friday 25th August – BHS House Music Competition (1:15pm-3:15pm)
  • Thursday 31st August – Lunchtime Lockdown Practice Drill
  • Thursday 14th September – Year 12 Wellbeing Day (No classes for Year 12’s on this day)

Students of the Month

At Belmont High School we celebrate our students who display excellent learning behaviours with a regular “Student of the Month” award. There will be one Student of the Month per year level, twice per term. Student reports are used to create a shortlist for teachers to consider against the below criteria:

  • Student shows exceptional application in class and overall effort towards their studies.
  • Student has a positive attitude towards learning, their classes and the school.
  • Student is always ready to learn by being in correct uniform, having all required materials and rarely needs to leave class.
  • Student may show some leadership qualities in the classroom.
  • Student’s academic performance is very good OR they have shown great growth in this area over time.

I’m pleased to announce the students of the month for July were:

Year 7 – Alexis Rhodes (7Green)

Year 8 – Erin Moloney (8 Purple)

Year 9 –  Anya Dreyer (9 Gold)

Year 10 – Mayank Jadwani (10 Red)

Year 11V – Prabhnoor Ghuman(11 Green)

Year 12 –  Lachie Baker (12 Blue)

Parent / Student / Teacher Interviews

It was terrific to see so many families attend school yesterday to participate in our interviews. This day is always a terrific chance to celebrate the success of our learners and also map out some strategies for where the next piece of learning can come from.

Subject Selections / Course Counselling

A big thank you to Nick Masters, Jess Scannell, and the Careers Team for all their work supporting the Year 9 & 10 students around their subject selections for 2024. On Tuesday 8th August, our Year 10 Course Counselling Day occurred. Thanks to all the families that took the time to come in and discuss pathway and career aspirations with the student’s House Leader.  Make sure you keep the conversation up with your children as the better the students are informed the better the chance for a successful pathway.

Parent Survey

WE WANT OUR PARENTS / CAREGIVERS / GUARDIANS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!

Recently 300 of our families would have received an email regarding the ‘Parent Opinion Survey’. This data is invaluable as it gives the school the chance to reflect on how parents feel about their engagement in their child’s education. If you’ve received this email, I encourage you to complete this survey and help us provide a better service for our school community.

NAPLAN Results

NAPLAN results for our Year 7 & 9 students are now available via Compass. Hard copies were handed out at yesterday's parent / student / teacher interviews. If you missed collecting your child’s result please either pop into the office or send a note with your child to collect.

Breakfast Club

A reminder about our re-launched Breakfast Club. Students are welcome before school to join us for a toastie and hot milo in the staff common room. The early response has been fantastic, and we’d love to see more students coming down and enjoying some food and a conversation.

Cameron Ricchini

Congratulations to our resident super fish, Year 12 student Cameron Ricchini who recently competed at the Victorian Country Swimming Championships in Wangaratta. Cam came home with 7 individual Victorian country championship titles (gold medals), and 3 silver. He also swam a new championship record time in the 400m individual medley. Well done, Cam.
