Inquiry

Dance & Digital Technologies

In Inquiry, Prep students will explore the question, ‘How Do We Communicate?’ through an understanding of our Global Goal, Gender Equality and our whole school thread of Empathy. Students will investigate different modes of communication that include, visual (pictures, symbols, written) verbal (talking) and non-verbal (gestures, dance). Through the lens of storytelling, they will deepen their knowledge of how different modes of communication can enhance how a story can be told and received. The unit will be linked with the preparation and performance of the whole school production and how we can communicate through dance and body language.

At the conclusion of the unit, the students will transfer their understanding by creating and presenting a multi-modal story that will encompass more than one way to communicate. This will be showcased during the class performance. Furthermore, the students will transfer ideas and creatively enhance their class performance of their song in the production. By building our knowledge of ways we can communicate, we hope to promote that we can have empathy to those that do not communicate in ways we prefer.

How to assist your child with this learning:

  • Talk to your child about how your family communicates, shares and passes on stories from your culture
  • Engage with different storytelling. For example reading a book, viewing movies, looking at drawings and art together.
  • Model active listening by asking questions or rephrasing what your child has said and encourage your child to do the same.
