Dear Armadale Community,

I hope you are managing to stay warm and dry in this chilly wintry spell. Don’t forget to restock those extra jackets and jumpers available in our second hand uniform shop.

Congratulations to all the Year 2 students who hosted this week’s assembly showcasing their learning through performance and knowledge of Italian vocabulary and language. It’s lovely to see such young children being so confident in speaking publicly in front of a large audience. Thank you also to Vita, Rosanna and Mrs Evans for all of their time and work into preparing the children.

YEAR 5’s VISIT REGIS AGED CARE IN MALVERN

Also on Tuesday, all of the year 5 students visited the Regis Aged care facility in Malvern as part of our Community Outreach program, designing games and activities they could play with the Aged care residents.

The Year 5 children loved the experience of being with the elderly residents. They told me that the residents were really engaged with the activities and once the children taught them how to play they didn’t want to stop. Another highlight were the stories that the elderly shared with the children about their own experiences. The children also found them humorous too. A surprising outcome was how much the children enjoyed interacting with the elderly and learning from, the residents equally enjoyed the children’s company.

2023 NAPLAN RESULTS

I am thrilled to share with our community the following NAPLAN results that were released to the school on Monday. I am still waiting for the student’s individual results to be delivered to the school so we can distribute these to our parents/carers.

Individually our students have done incredibly well, especially considering we don’t exclude or recommend children NOT to sit NAPLAN as is the practice in other schools. Rather we focus on what the child can achieve and use their results to further support students and inform their teaching.

Important to note that for all of the students who have been identified as needing Additional Support are already on the Tutoring Program or are receiving this in the classroom. Similarly, for those who are in the Developing category. We also had a number of children in Year 3 and 5 sit the Reading, Spelling and GP tests who are short term international students and don’t have the same English skills as our permanent residents.

For Reading, Numeracy and Writing which are our school’s focus areas, the percentage of children in the Top two bands ( Strong and Exceeding) is:

Reading Year 3 = 84% Year 5 = 76%

Numeracy Year 3 = 93% Year 5 = 88%

Writing Year 3 = 100% Year 5 = 83%

All of the students are to be congratulated on their application to these NAPLAN tests which the children sat in March this year.

Tomorrows Leaders for Sustainability

Our School has been selected to participate in this program for this year which perfectly compliments the sustainable practices used by Ariel and Clare in the Kitchen Garden program. All of the Year 6 students will enjoy this additional leadership opportunity.

HIGH ABILITY MATHS PROBLEM SOLVING DAY is on this Friday at Coatesville Primary School

8 of our talented mathematicians in Years 4, 5/6 have been selected to represent our school at this Maths Problem Solving Day. I wish them all the best and am excited to hear how they go. Looking forward to sharing their achievements with you next week. Thank you to Connie and Jenny for enabling the children to attend.

LONG SERVICE LEAVE

We wish Zaim and Allira fabulous long service leave and hope they have a wonderful time overseas with their families! The classes are being looked after by replacement teachers known to the children.

SRC Pyjama Day Fundraiser is on Next FRIDAY July 28th for the whole school!

Our SRC Community Leadership group are holding a Pyjama Day for the whole school. Children are to come to school dressed up in their pyjamas, onesies, dressing gowns and please ensure they are warmly dressed. At lunchtime the children will be invited to sit in the MPC and watch a movie and a bag of popcorn will be available to purchase.

Children are asked to bring a gold coin donation for dressing up and popcorn will be sold for $2.00 per bag. Please ensure children have the correct change with them. The SRC have decided that all proceeds will be going towards the next stage of the Masterplan.

Playground update

Thank you to everyone for your ongoing patience with the lack of progress and last week I had informed you that our landscaper had unfortunately been in a car accident and subsequently hospitalised. We had seen some progress over the weekend and I am now delighted to share with you an email just received a short time ago.

“Hi Rochelle,

Thanks for your time on Monday to catch up. Once again sorry for the delay in delivering this project for your school. I have been in communication with the landscape team daily, mudstone rock delivery will be tomorrow and landscapers will be back on site tomorrow. Once the mudstone rocks go in the project will start to take shape.

I will be out on site early in the week to go over some final set out with the landscapers.
