Author Morris Gleitzman visits Trinity

On Monday, as part of our Book Week celebrations, Trinity welcomed a very well known children's author Morris Gleitzman to our school. He spoke with the children in Years 3-6 about his experience of being a writer and had the students (and teachers) enthralled for the whole hour that he spent talking with them. Students were also given the opportunity to have some of their very own Morris Gleitzman books signed by Morris himself.

Year 5/6 MindFlight Incursion

MindFlight Incursion

Written by Anthony 5/6FA

On Thursday, we had a Virtual Reality Incursion where we learnt about Climate Change. We had to wear Virtual Reality Goggles and we could hear the sounds of everything that was happening in our goggles. Our first activity was a game where we learnt about volcanoes. We had controllers where we could move around to learn more about them. After that, we played a game called Nature Treks. We had many different places to visit, like the ocean and even space. We then had the choice of joining a game called Ocean Rifts. We could interact with different ocean creatures like whales and dolphins. There were even prehistoric animals like the mosasaurus! Overall, it was a fun and educational experience as we learnt about using immersive VR technology as another way of learning, as we experienced the reality of other worlds without having to leave the classroom.

Speak with Power - Year 5/6

Congratulations to all the students on their progress throughout this public speaking course, with most students achieving 'personal bests'. Congratulations also to Douglas in 5/6BOC and Nicolai in 5/6FA who were both awarded trophies for their presentation of their final speeches.

Speak With Power

Written by Douglas 5/6BOC

Speak with Power was a public speaking program that we participated in over four weeks with Ron Thomas, a Gold Level Toastmaster. It was really intriguing hearing other’s speeches, from the one minute impromptu speech where we need to come up with a speech on the spot after receiving a topic, to the two and three minute speeches. For the two minute and three minutes speeches we had a week to prepare a speech about ourselves.  One of them was about a passion or what you want to be remembered for, and the other was a free choice topic; I did mine on 'Space and the Maths Symbol Pi'. We also got lots of advice and evaluations from both Ron and our classmates. In the last week however, we were evaluated based on a public speaking scale from 0 to 100. The program has taught me many speaking skills like voice variety, speech structure, and lots more. Overall, I thought the Speak with Power program was really interesting and I learnt lots of new skills from it.

If you have any questions or concerns about your child's learning, please do not hesitate to make contact with your child's teacher. You are also welcome to come and see me about any aspect of learning at Trinity.
