Inquiry

During this term's Inquiry unit, learners will embark on an exploration of the question, ‘How do cultural practices influence dance?’ Through explicit teaching and engaging hands-on experiences, we will delve into intergenerational ideas, the three modes of cultural understanding, gender equality, and the evolution of dance over time. Students will have the opportunity to create dances that entertain, tell stories, or express their feelings and emotions. Our research into dance will encompass diverse cultural aspects found within various dance genres. Additionally, students will investigate the representation of genders in dance and explore how their cultural upbringing can shape their perceptions within the realm of dance.

To support your child’s learning at home, you could encourage them to:

  • Encourage them to explore dances from different cultures and observe how they have evolved throughout history.
  • Engage in discussions about the significance of dance in different cultures and the role it plays in connections and preserving traditions.
  • Support their creative exploration by providing access to resources such as books, documentaries, or online videos that showcase diverse dance styles and cultural practices.
