FRENCH

Bonjour à tous!

J'espère que vous avez passé de bonnes vacances. (I hope you had nice holidays).

This year, I will keep updating you with the students' progress in French. I have also decided to make you discover the country a bit more, so I will try to introduce a new region in each newsletter, starting 'dans deux semaines' (in two weeks). I hope you will enjoy it.

Fo those of you who like French music, I will keep introducing new French singers too (or some you already know from last year), by posting a link to a video clip in each newsletter.

We will start this year with the latest song from Belgian singer Stromae, who is a huge star in France and in all francophone countries around the world.

The title is 'Santé!' which literally means 'health' or 'Cheers!' (when you share a drink with some friends).

All students had a great start in French. In every class, we will be focusing on French culture for a few weeks.

  • With the Preps, we used a globe to start a discussion about France. Together, we answered questions such as:

- Where is France?

- How far is it from Australia and how could we get there?

- Who speaks another language at home and what is a language?

After watching a short video ('Peppa Pig goes to Paris'), we talked about the Eiffel Tower.

  • In Year 1, the students watched a presentation about the geography of France and its location in Europe. We then discussed some facts about the country, such as popular French food (they seemed a bit digusted by the fact that we eat snails and frog legs) and the types of animals that live in the mountains there.
  • In Years 2 and 3, the students wached two videos to revise some facts about French culture and to start learning more about the Eiffel Tower. This week they will be quizzed about what they have learnt in their first lesson.
  • In Year 4, the focus was on Paris.
  • In Years 4/5 and 5/6, the students are learning more details about the geography of France. They drew their own map of the country and they will complete it with lots of information (main cities and rivers, surrounding ocean and Seas, neighbouring countries, names of the main mountains).

I will show you some pictures of their beautiful maps next time.

Have a nice week and take good care of yourselves.

A bientôt (talk to you soon)!

Delphine
