Parents & Friends

☕️ Welcome back families! A big thank you to all parents and carers who were able to make either  our Foundation Morning Tea last Wednesday, or Whole School Morning Tea on Friday.

It was lovely to see so many new and familiar faces. Thankfully the weather was clear, and we were able to take advantage of the lovely courtyard, and practise some socially distanced catching up!

This week we have the Grade 5/6 Parents Morning Tea after Friday’s Assembly if you’re free.

🥣 Jess Walker is our fantastic Community Support Representative. She co-ordinates support for school families through an anonymous volunteer community. Your family may be having a challenging time due to job loss, illness, injury, or financial stress. Please know that you can reach out to Jess to let her know what you need - eg. groceries essentials, some snacks for lunchboxes or a few home cooked meals. Jess reaches out to her volunteers who provide what’s needed and both parties stay anonymous to each other.

If you need help, or if you’d like to help, you  can email Jess at:

✋🏻 Volunteers Needed ✋🏻

One of the things that creates a sense of belonging with a school and its community is getting involved.

I completely understand that for some families, you may not want to, or have the time to get involved. Life is jam packed for many of us

However, if you *do* have a little time that you could spare, I need to fill 3 sets of roles. I’ll explain each role below for new families.

🎂 1. Cake Raffle Roster

Each Assembly, we have a cake raffle. Students can purchase tickets on the day of the raffle - 20cents each or 6 for $1 and at the end of  Assembly, the raffle is drawn and cakes are handed out. You may choose to donate 1 large cake, or a plate or two of biscuits/slice/cupcakes etc. so there are more prizes. It is appreciated if you could attach a slip of paper with the ingredients on it for our families who have allergies.

Because we have a Junior & a Senior Assembly each week, we have 2 cake raffle rosters. You might choose to just supply a prize for one of the raffles that week, or find it just as easy to put your name down for both in one week.

🤝 2. Class Parent Reps

This role is a great way to meet other parents in your child’s class, and help other parents feel connected. You’ll be given a class contact list to send to your fellow class parents, and you might be able to organise a catch up during the term holidays or on a weekend for the class to come together for a play - a picnic in a park for example. It’s just a chance for your fellow parents to meet outside of school and get to know each other. You might choose to do the role with 1-2 other parents in your class and share the role.

If you’re interested in the role, could you please let me know, or contact the Office, along with your child’s name and grade.

🪳 3. Head Lice Checks

They are the critters that send shivers amongst parents, and they seem to spread like wildfire.

MPRPS is one of the few schools with a parent managed head lice check program. Once a term, a group of volunteers check each student (who’s parent has given prior permission) for head lice so any eggs or lice can be quickly treated by the child’s parent.

Mais Sukker has very kindly volunteered to take on the role as Co-ordinator for this program again, and she will be very grateful for any help you can give. You are also given training on what to look for and how to conduct the checks carefully and respectfully.

For this program, you need a current Working With Children Check, and be fully vaccinated as you’ll be on school grounds.

If you’d like any more information about the Head Lice program, please feel free to contact Sue in the office, or ask Mais or myself.

👍🏻 If you haven’t already, please join the Parents Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/mprpsparentsandfriends/

It’s a great place to stay up to date with school events and connect with fellow parents. Please remember to answer the two questions when you request to join 😊
