Grip Leadership Conference

Written by Ryan & Cynthia

Thursday, 24th of March, 2022 was without a doubt one of the most enjoyable days for 12 lucky Year 6's. These 12 lucky students were chosen to attend a conference run by GRIP and it taught us about showing and implementing leadership in our school and making it a better place for our students to learn and have fun.

It started off with how we can STEP up and take initiative at school and in our daily lives. S in STEP stands for Show what’s right. T in STEP stands for Taking initiative. E in STEP stands for Encouraging others to do what’s right. P in STEP stands for Purpose.

While we were still learning how to show leadership they made the conference fun by having two speakers, Jack and Levi being the hosts of a ten minute session called the ‘Loud Noise’. They screamed into the microphone, making everyone bounce up. The Loud Noise Boys played a game with four volunteers from different schools. The game involved two volunteers closing their eyes and guessing the noise that the other two volunteers made. The volunteers had to look up the screen and make the voice of it, the first volunteer to guess the voice made by the other two volunteers won.

After all that excitement, we had our snack break and returned back to the conference room. We learned about how to STEP up integrity and we watched a few short clips from  a number of different movies seeing how they Stepped up integrity. And then we had our representative for MPRPS which was Lachie. He told us how the character from the short clip took initiative. To raise the excitement up, Andrew a Grip speaker dressed as Professor Einstein came and taught us how to always be honest by holding a small play for us to watch and learn . After the play, the loud noise boys came back and played guess the song using karaoke songs. They had four volunteers go up to the stage and guess the song that we were singing. Everyone was excited and danced to the music while singing.

The final segment saw the speakers teach us all about the standards of teamwork. We learned how we should seek others' ideas, select the most suitable ideas,

schedule a time frame, set tasks to suit team members and most importantly, support each other.  A great day was had by all 12 students on the GRIP Leadership Conference and we look forward to continuing to implement change and leadership within our school.
