ANZAC DAY

ADVANCED NOTICE - ANZAC DAY COMMEMORATIONS

This is an advanced notice about the involvement of students from St. Joseph’s School in the local ANZAC Day commemorations.

St. Joseph’s School students have been invited by the Glen Innes RSL Sub-branch to take part in the 2022 ANZAC Day commemorations. Our involvement is as follows:

Dawn Service: The School Captains, SRC members and any other students along with their parents are invited to participate in the ANZAC Dawn Service at the Cemetery, which generally commences at 5.15am on ANZAC Day, Monday, 25th April
ANZAC March: All students are also invited to participate in the ANZAC Day March which generally starts at 11am on ANZAC Day, Monday, 25th April. The students will meet the teachers at the Post Office at 10.30am.

Please consider if your child will be able to attend, traditionally we always have a great representation from our school. A COMPASS event notice will come out next week for you to register your child’s participation.

ST VINNIES SHOP

As the end of term comes need we think about changing our uniforms for the winter months. St Vinnies have a great range of our uniforms in the shop at the moment. Please think of them when purchasing uniforms for your children.

The retail shop is open Monday to Friday 10am to 3.30pm and on Saturday 9.30am to 12 noon

NAPLAN

Our school will be participating in NAPLAN between 10 and 20 May 2022. Exemption and withdrawal both require parent/carer consent. This signed consent form should be completed and filed at the school for audit purposes by 8 April 2022. Please speak to your classroom teacher or Principal for further information.

COMPASS online consent and payment

To facilitate greater ease and accessibility for parents when providing online consent and payment for excursions and sporting trips, the St Joseph’s School COMPASS App has been upgraded to include COMPASS Pay. Please ensure that you download the latest version of the COMPASS App to use this great new feature. It certainly saves a good deal of wasted paper and follow-up phone calls and emails! Contact the school if you require assistance.

Laudato Si: On care for our common home

As some may be aware, Laudato Si: On care for our common home: is the 2015 encyclical letter written by Pope Francis that is a call to action for the people of the world to care for and restore the Earth. Because Pope Francis has called us to action, it is our responsibility as a Catholic organisation to promote care for our planet.

One of the items that is problematic is to know whether to recycle medication blister packs which contain a mix of shiny foil paper and softer plastic, like those shown here:

A new initiative means that 49 pharmacies across NSW and QLD are accepting these packs for recycling in a specifically designed process. The only pharmacy in our diocese which is participating is the:

Inverell Medical Centre Pharmacy Suite 3, 113 Swanbrook Rd Inverell.

To facilitate our use of this opportunity a labelled box is located at St Joseph’s School to collect the EMPTY blister packs. A CSO staff member will then take the waste to Inverell.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE BLISTER PACKS MUST BE EMPTY BEFORE PLACING THEM IN THE BOX.
