Achieving Goals is part of learning…

Our number one lesson each and every week at Maramba is our ‘Me and You’ session in the Foundation to Year 2 classes and ‘Innovation Meet’ in the Year 3-6 classes. (Same concept – just a more grown up name).  These lessons are carefully planned and taught by the teachers in direct response to the specific needs of the students.  Based around the SPICE Elements of Social, Physical, Intellectual, Cultural and Emotional.  It is an uplifting time in the week when each class comes together to think about, discuss and learn more about the actions, behaviours, expectations, misconceptions and even beliefs around the selected topic.  As a community of learners, with an aim to put new learning into practice a class goal is set at the conclusion of the lesson.  Linking the students together, this goal is displayed proudly in the classroom and referred to throughout the week.  The students determine the target they need to achieve to demonstrate as a collective how well they have worked together and if they in fact have achieved the class goal. After time for personal and whole class reflection our week concludes with a creative session, known fondly by our students as ‘Innovation Hour’ to celebrate the class achievement in successfully working together and achieving the set goal.  Learning this way where the students take the lead for their personal learning allows them to use their voices – a great start to developing self-esteem, and a social moral compass.
