SAC

Chairman’s Report

Firstly, I would like to welcome everyone back to the new school year and hope that everyone had a safe and relaxing Christmas and New year break, especially as we had a few extra freedoms this summer. Hopefully, all our community is rested up and ready to take on 2022 with a positive attitude and readiness to learn.

I would particularly like to wish all the parents of our grade six children a fruitful year as they enjoy the final year of primary school as seniors and leaders and prepare to transition to Year 7. I would also like to say a big welcome to all the new prep children and all the new children at any level and hope new families feel welcome at St Michael’s.  In addition to the teachers, leadership and admin team, the Council members are available to help you.

On Thursday 17th February 2022, the SAC (School Advisory Council) convened for our first meeting of the year and our first face to face meeting in 12 months. It was great to see the Council members at the meeting and I look forward to working with everyone over the next 12 months.

Elysia Robb who has been an active Council member for St Michael’s for some time has decided to step down. The SAC and staff thank Elysia for all her efforts and wish the whole family well at their new school.

As well as the Council members attending the meeting, we also invited:

Fergus Chisholm - General Manager Infrastructure Services and Capital Delivery for MACS;

Alan Cubbon - Director of Crosier Scott Architect

Matt Anderson - Project Manager and Glenn Crowhurst - Construction Manager from Lloyd Group

Main discussion points:

Building Update:

There have been some disruptions to the build for a number of reasons including: delays in material delivery, COVID delays, unexpected extra treatment required to make the soil suitable and a safety breach, which thankfully, was addressed quickly.

Denise Hussey will send out a full communication about the progress of the new building including adjusted timelines in her fortnightly Building Update Newsletter.  I would like to add that the safety of the children at school is paramount and the committee are satisfied with the measures that the Lloyd group have implemented to meet compliance and operate in a safe manner.  Safety is something we can all play a part in, so if you see something that you think appears unsafe, please let one of the committee members, or staff at the school know, so action can be taken as quickly as possible.

Parents and Friends Group:

We are currently looking for new members for the ‘Parents and Friends’ group. This group has been an integral part of the St Michael’s community over a number of years, raising funds to provide resources for the school.  Your involvement could be to help out on one or more activities or take the reins to re-imagine a valuable and important group for the school. Denise will send out an ‘expression of interest’, so please complete this to register your availability.

I, along with all the SAC, look forward to the year ahead which I am sure will be full of learning, growing and fun for our whole St Michael’s community.

Stay Safe and happy.

Joe Greco

SAC Chairman.
