Senior Music Tour 2019 Information Evening

There is an information night on Thursday 2 August at 6pm in the Lecture Theatre to give more details on the proposed 2019 Senior Music Tour to New Zealand. Jason Johnston from World Strides will be there with lots of the specific information about the tour. I would encourage all families to attend, even if you are not planning to go on the tour. We are very proud of our Music Program at MGSC and I am very excited about us having the opportunity to showcase our ensembles abroad.

After the information night we will be collecting expression of interest forms and deposits. We will also put together a fundraising committee of students, parents and staff, who will aim to keep the cost as minimal as possible for our families.

I am happy to answer simple questions before this date by email, however I would ask that any more complicated questions are kept for the information night.

The dates for the tour are 1 to 7 July 2019 and open to students in next year's Symphonic Band, Senior Strings, Stage Band, Jazz Band and Madrigal.

The tour has a sound educational element and a range of engaging activities and experiences. The benefits as far as developing motivation, initiative and cooperation within the group are crucial to the further development of Mentone Girls’ Secondary College’s performing groups. The major focal point for the tour is the opportunity to compete in the prestigious Rhapsody Rotorua Festival of Youth Music which will provide excellent exposure for the College on an international stage. It is also an incredible opportunity for the students to prepare and perform 1 hour of repertoire and workshop with leading music educators. They will workshop and rehearse with students from other schools from around the world. The learning will be further bolstered with attendance at performances of an exceptionally high standard. Performing at and attending this event will be very rewarding for our students and provide them with many valuable learning opportunities. In addition to the musical benefits of the tour there will also be many cultural benefits which will include many aspects of Maori culture (Karakia, dancing and traditions), geology (geysers, bubbling mud and volcanoes) and New Zealand farming.
