NEW Guidelines for Kiss and Drop Zones in 2020

We care for the safety and welfare of all those who use the car parks and streets surrounding our school. The traffic environment around schools is one of the most complex road transport environments encountered by the majority of motorists, and easily the most complex traffic environment encountered by children.

Improved procedures that will be in place at Blackfriars from the start of 2020 are designed to ensure the safety and welfare of all students and members of the community.

Our Objective

Drop-off and pick-up problems will be addressed with the following measures:

  • General improvement to the road safety environment.
  • Improved directional signage and line marking.
  • Organised grouping of children waiting to be picked up.
  • Targeted release of children whose vehicle has arrived.
  • Changing driver attitudes and continuous traffic flow.
  • Create awareness of safety issues and consideration of others.

New Directional Signage

Students moving to vehicles is a particularly serious safety concern, so to address this we will be introducing a plan that will improve current traffic congestion. Here’s how it works…

  • Both Highbury Street and Prospect Road car park Kiss and Drop Zones will be in operation from 8am to 9am and 3pm to 4pm, Monday to Friday.
  • Always drop-off or pick-up students from the designated Kiss and Drop Zone and follow our directional signage procedures.
  • There will be absolutely NO Parking in the Kiss and Drop Zones and all drivers are to remain in their vehicles. This is a 2 MINUTE zone.
  • We ask that parents / carers do not exit their vehicles as this can slow down the traffic flow causing flow-on delays for other motorists and students.
  • All students are to remain on the footpath and can NOT attempt to enter the road environment.
  • Parents / carers are NOT permitted to enter the Kiss and Drop Zone unless in your vehicle.

Stay Safe Rangers

Our Primary School Leaders will provide assistance at the Highbury Street Kiss and Drop Zone. Here’s how it works…

  • Stay Safe Rangers and staff will be on duty at Highbury Street from 3.05pm daily.
  • For easy identification, Stay Safe Rangers and staff members will wear hi visibility vests.
  • This is strictly a 2 minute Kiss and Drop Zone.
  • Staff members on duty can communicate with parents / carers in order to locate students quickly and safely.
  • Students will only be permitted to board a vehicle if it is parked in the Kiss and Drop Zone, and will be directed by either a staff member on duty or a Stay Safe Ranger.

If you wish to walk your children into school, it will be necessary to park in the appropriate parking area, or in the surrounding streets.
