Principal News

What a great school we are!

We are in the midst of enrolment tours for 2020 - can you believe it!

We are thoroughly enjoying, with the help of the School Captains, showcasing our amazing school.  The feedback we are receiving from the prospective parents has been humbling and complementary.  It is a pure delight that the dedication of our staff, the politeness of our students, the inclusiveness of our school and the the commitment of our school community is being recognised.  Cannot be more proud.

Child Safe Standard

Standard 4: Screening, supervision, training and other human resource practices that reduce the risk of child abuse

Child Safe Standard 4 requires schools to use policies and procedures for recruitment, supervision, training and managing performance that support a child safe school environment.

CSPS has a staff development strategy to maintain and develop skills and capabilities, including understanding the risk of harm to children, the different types of harm, how to identify child abuse and relevant legislative requirements.

CSPS ensures there is appropriate supervision or support arrangements in place in relation to;

  • induction of new staff into the school’s policies, codes, practices and procedures governing child safety and child-connected work
  • monitoring and assessing a job occupants continuing suitability for child-connected work

There are many ancillary health and wellbeing services that attend our school on a regular basis (see table below).  All external services attending CSPS are under the jurisdiction of Child Safe and are subject to screening practices that reduce the risk of child abuse.

Before school concern

The number of students at school 7.45 - 8.30am is alarming.  The Duty of Care of all staff legally commences at 8.50am but staff are feeling morally compelled to watch out for children as early as 7.45am.  One staff member stated an interesting fact - "I pay for my child to attend Before Care where I live but yet when I come to school to prepare for the day, I feel like I am expected to watch out for other people's children.  My job is to be the best teacher I can, not to babysit."

CSPS is fortunate to have two Before School Care options - Camp Australia onsite and Aussie Kinders offsite (bused to and from school).

I shudder to think what could happen to your child before school whilst unsupervised. Families will be phoned if a student is at school before 8.30am to discuss alternative arrangements.

Toilet Blitz

Did you know that students are at school only 19% of their week.  Therefore 81% of their week is with families, parents, carers etc.  The most powerful means to extend a message is therefore through the home.

We require strong family support in promoting positive and appropriate behaviour in the toilets.   Can all families please emphasise and prioritise PRIDE in our school, especially toilets.

At school, we continue to implement tighter monitoring of toilet behaviour, maintenance of toilet needs and use or over use of products such as toilet paper and soap.

Thank you for your support - together we can raise the standards of toilet behaviour and hygiene.

This semester CSPS will be rolling out student school reports and parent-teacher conferences on Compass for the first time. This means you will be able to access your child's report as a PDF file and book your parent-teacher conferences all on Compass. As this is the first time using the new system, we do appreciate your patience and understanding. There will be an important notice sent home this week with extra information.

In order to reduce our global footprint, school reports will also now be paperless. If you require a paper version of your child's report you will need to complete the opt-in section of the relevant notice going home this week.

2019 School Concert

This year’s school concert “Spellbound” will be held on Tuesday, September 3 from 7pm to 9pm at the Frankston Arts Centre.  All tickets are $21.50 each. Students performing do not need a ticket.

This year seating will be allocated using a ballot system. A ballot system provides a fair ticketing and seat allocation process for all families.  A notice was sent home today, June 12.

More information will be sent home in due course, such as specific ticketing instructions, costumes requirements, DVD/USB ordering instructions, event day activities etc.
