Year 9 Drama

During the week Year 9 Drama practised our focus technique as our eyes can unintentionally ruin a performance.

During the class, we had to focus on specific items or even an imaginary thing. We then created different levels (standing on chairs or laying on the floor) as if we were trying to reach what we are looking at.

This excersice has thoroughly helped our class because now when we do act we truly look invested in what we are doing.

Jubilate

As you all may know, our College changes our theme every year. This year our College theme is "Jubilate; shout with joy"

In 1983, St John's Regional College celebrated its Silver Jubilee. 35 Years ago the simple phrase "For all that will be - Yes!" was a sign off at the end of the commemorative year. That is, let us go forward in a spirit of enthusiamsm and with a "shout of joy".

It's now 2018, and we are celebrating our Diamond Jubilee. It is a time for us to reflect and look back and praise God for all that has been, and once again to echo the words written 35 years ago, joyfully shouting, "For all that will be - Yes!"

Two of our students have constructed a poem representing our college theme.

Shout for joy and celebrate,

because following God's light lead us to our fate.

For it has been 60 years of great success,

so with pride we will wear our college crest.

We have come a long way from where we began,

now together we stand hand in hand.

We aren't just a school, we're a family,

and we all love each other compassionately.

We welcome each person with open hearts,

because our love for each other staff is off the charts.

Supreme Court Excursion

On Thursday 15 February, the Year 12 Legal Studies class was fortunate enough to have a tour of the Victorian Supreme Court in the City. We all took the train to Flagstaff station and made our way towards the historical landmark.  Our tour guide Martin started off by showing us the inside of a typical courtroom. He gave us the opportunity to role-play how a trial would be conducted and have everyone a certain job to play. Some of these roles included witnesses, the deference barrister, the prosecution, the judge's associate and the tipstaff. I was lucky enough to be given the role of head juror, and the opportunity to give the 'guilty' verdict to the accused (Eden Krol).

Once we had completed our role play, we made our way to a public gallery to watch a real pre-trial hearing.  To watch an actual trial was terrifying but oddly intriguing at the same time.  When it was over, we were lead to the research library and were informed about the history of the Victorian justice system.

Overall, the entire experience was utterly fascinating and if I could do it again, I would.
