TERM 4 - WEEK 7

To the St Nicholas School Community,

As the weeks continue to tick over at a rapid pace in the 2019 calendar it is imperative that time is set aside for strategic planning. It is crucial we hit the ground running in 2020, rather than seeing day one as an opportunity to plan for the remainder of the year.

Strategic planning includes the two pupil free days at the end of 2019 and at the start of 2020. St Nicholas Leaders of Pedagogy (Amanda Doyle and Shelly O’Sullivan) have ensured the professional learning for our staff on these days reflects contemporary research, our vision and learning agenda.

A key component to any school, or organisation, drive to improve is the strategic plan. St Nicholas strategic plan for 2020 will focus on four pillars of improvement through a collaborative culture. Pictorially this can be seen below, while the specifics will be shared in time.

The structure of teaching staff for 2020 is nearing completion and I look forward to sharing this with you by week 9 at the latest. Our students will then join their new teachers in their new learning spaces for an orientation day on Monday 16th December.

We are finding an alarming trend beginning where students are being dropped to school as early as 7.45am with the expectation that the school will look after them. This is neither safe nor fair. A staff member who arrives early to prepare for the day,  should not be put in a situation where they are the only person on site with a child. Our first supervision duty begins at 8.15am. No child should be on the premises before this time. If this does not suit parents or carers you may need to look at alternate form of care such as Before School Care.

It has been a big term and yet there is still a way to go. Special events still to come include our End of Year Mass, the PT&F Christmas Picnic, Presentation Night and Year 6 Luncheon! Let's keep working together to ensure the end of year finishes on a high. I look forward to sharing these wonderful events with you all!

Have a wonderful week,

John Clery

LEAVING OR RELOCATING?

Planning for the 2020 school year is well underway.  Could I ask any families who may be relocating and will not be attending St Nicholas School next year to contact the office staff as soon as possible.
