SPORTS UPDATE
JSS
Last week, the JSS Wednesday afternoon sports competition concluded. St Mary’s had seven teams progress to the semi-finals, of which four teams made the Grand Final, making it one of our most successful JSS competitions to date. Congratulations to Boys Basketball, Girls Netball, Boys Touch and Girls Touch for competing with pride, synergy and sportsmanship in the grand final last week.
The boys and girls touch teams both took out the win, with convincing victories over Cairns State High School and Peace Lutheran respectively. These winning teams will be recognised at the Sports Awards afternoon next week. Thank you to Miss Lo Grande, who coached the girls in an undefeated season, and Mr James Will for coaching the boys.
I also thank Mrs Kyia Tillett and Miss Leah McBryde for their work in organising the teams, locations, buses and uniforms all semester.
JSS students enjoyed a break-up at Woree pool on Wednesday, with the Wipeout course and pizza, to celebrate a successful season.
SPORTS AWARDS AFTERNOON – WEEK 8
Next Wednesday 23rd November, St Mary's are hosting their Sports Awards afternoon in the HOB from 1:15pm - 3:00pm (during Period 5 & 6 Sport).
We are fortunate to be recognising a number of students' sporting achievements and contributions during 2022, and have secured Darius Boyd as our key-note speaker. Darius is a former Australian Rugby League footballer.
All parents are welcome to attend, but invitations to parents of students receiving awards have been emailed out. Please ensure you RSVP.
CAIRNS PARKRUN
Thank you to all students, staff, parents and Family Connect members who volunteered at Cairns Parkrun last Saturday! We had a wonderful turnout, and it was a great way to serve the Cairns community and kickstart the weekend.
