Celebrating Achievement
Congratulations to Year 10 student Piper Devine who recently competed at the Qld State School Track and Field Championships in Brisbane. Piper received Silver in the 800m and Bronze in the 1500m and has been selected for the Qld Team at All Schools National Championships in Adelaide in December. Piper has been busy and competed in the NQ Championships a couple of weeks ago, winning her 1500m and 800m and setting a new record that has sat for 19 years. She also came second in Pole Vault! We're so proud of your achievements Piper!
Congratulations to our Year 9/10 Water Polo teams who competed at the Cairns Inter-School Water Polo Gala Day at TAS. The boys came away with 2nd place, and the girls nabbed 3rd place! Thank you to Mr Cahill and Mr Hanlon for coaching the teams. Special mention to Nate Milne & Latisha Peverell, who was awarded vice-MVP for the Carnival, and Charlotte Jonsen, who was awarded a spirit award.
Congratulations to Sienna Hodgson, who participated in Mackay's Rumble on the Reef Cable Wakeboard competition in the second week of the school holidays. Sienna secured third place in the Under 17 Women's section of the competition in a challenging field of competitors. Well done, Sienna!
Congratulations to Year 9 students Samara Ireland, Abigail Shliahov, and Brooklyn Wallwork, who won the Wonder of Science Regional student showcase run by UQ. These students have been invited to present their work at the State Conference in Brisbane next month. St Mary's also had Year 8 students participating; one team won third in their division. Well done to everyone that participated; St Mary's is proud of you!
Congratulations to Year 9 student Lara Lane competed last week at the QLD State Track & Field Championships in Brisbane at QSAC. Lara raced in the: 3000m and placed 6th and in the 2000m Steeplechase 4th in the 14 yrs. Well done on your efforts, Lara!
Congratulations to Cecilia Kwok who placed 2nd from 271 students across Queensland in the BEAQ CPA Accounting Challenge. Cecilia had to answer a selection of multiple choice questions online, in 40 mins and her efforts were rewarded with a gift pack and $100 voucher from the BEAQ and CPA. Well done Cecilia!
Congratulations to Nick Jonsen, Year 11, who has recently signed up as a School Based Apprentice with Cairns Climate Control. Nick will be undertaking a Cert III in Air-conditioning and Refrigeration. St Mary's wishes you all the best Nick on your apprenticeship.
