What's been happening in the 5/6 Classrooms

Mrs Nietvelt, Mrs Caldwel, Mrs Brown & Mrs Maduka

Over the past few weeks, Grade 5/6 students have been learning about the significant people and events that shaped Australia. After reading ‘Ned Kelly and the Green Sash’ earlier in the term, students worked through the writing process to complete a historical narrative focused around an event from the life of Ned Kelly; where they included facts about the event as well as their own fictional ideas.

Students also had the opportunity to listen to a guest speaker from the Swan Hill R.S.L. sub-branch to support their learning about Remembrance Day. We then extended our understanding through reading and thinking about the book 'One Minutes Silence’ by David Metzenthen. We also really enjoyed creating some art pieces to reflect our learning about Remembrance Day.
