Jazz Workshop at EDSC

Last week, our Music  students had the privilege of working with three distinguished Jazz musicians and educators visiting from the USA.  Dr Aaron Hedenstrom (University of Wisconsin), John Sturino (Stanford University, New York) and Drew Zaremba (University of Northern Colorado). While in Australia to perform a special Duke Ellington concert, these celebrated musicians took time out from their schedule to work with our students on improvisation and general performance. They played a few numbers for the students and their level of performance was eye-opening for our new Stage Band members.

All of the students involved were inspired and had the bravery to have a go at improvisation without knowing exactly what was going to happen.

Thank you to these inspiring musicians, and also to our staff who released their students for this great learning opportunity.

Thank you also to our own David Palmer (Brass teacher) for his role in engaging these professionals through his own involvement in performing at the Duke Ellington concert.

String Group Lunchtime Performance

It’s been a busy couple of weeks in the Music Department. In addition to the Spring Concert (see photos) and the Jazz Workshop, the String Group gave a lunchtime performance to an appreciative audience of students in the Year 7/8 area.
