Principal's Report

Welcome back...again!

It's lovely to have staff and students back onsite reconnecting with each other and the college. The wellbeing of our students is our priority and as such we commenced the return to onsite learning with virtual house assemblies followed by GOAL Group sessions where students were able to reconnect with their peers in person.

The experiences, learnings and resilience of our students during these unprecedented times will be captured in a Time Capsule documentary, kindly funded by the Lions Club of Sandringham and supported by HeadSpace. Our Media Club students, supported by Mr Slocum and Mr de Valle, are collecting the insights which will be launched later this year.

Year 8 Wellbeing Day

Our Year 7 and 8 students have now had their Wellbeing Days and after reading the Year 8 student reflections, included in this newsletter, the importance of these sessions should not be underestimated. We are finalising details and dates for our Year 9 and Year 10 Wellbeing Days.

Staffing Update

We are excited to welcome Hamish Scully to the team who will be teaching Money and Markets, Economies, as well as Year 8 Our World. Hamish will be our VCE Legal Studies teacher.

Student Opportunities and Experiences

I am constantly amazed at the breadth of subjects, opportunities and experiences we are able to offer our students. We have students developing apps, students hosting radio programs and students who have just returned from a straight out of lockdown Ski Camp, to name a few!

Currently, we have 41 students enrolled in our Instrumental Music Program to learn one of the following instruments: Voice, Flute, Saxophone, Piano, Drum Kit, Guitar, Bass Guitar, Trumpet, Violin and Viola.

I am also very proud of the fact that our students are at the centre of how the college makes decisions, from choosing furniture for the new building to determining which specialisms will be running next year.

Good luck to all students for the upcoming House Athletics Carnival on Wednesday 11 August.
