Winter Sport Cancellation

Given the current restrictions in place and the business of the Independent Schools' calendar, both the Independent Sporting Association (ISA) and Independent Primary School Heads of Australia (IPSHA) have sadly, but understandably, cancelled the remainder of the Winter Sports season. Whilst this decision is disappointing for those students representing the College in Rugby, Football, Tennis and AFL, the College is supportive of this stance as the safety of all participants, supporters, and officials is paramount.

This news will be particularly disappointing for the current Year 12 cohort, and I have no doubt that both staff and parents are mindful of this. I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and commend our Year 12 boys who have contributed positively to the Co-curricular Program over several years. Thankfully, all our boys were able to play two-thirds of the 2021 Winter season and were afforded the opportunity to create some positive memories for the future.

The ISA have decided to acknowledge those teams currently topping their tables as Minor Premiers. The community will be informed as to which of our teams have been crowned Minor Premiers in due course.

The above-mentioned associations and the College will now turn to preparing for the upcoming Athletics and Summer competitions with the hope that they will proceed in some form. Please note that the ISA Athletics Championships have been postponed until late October. Both Mr Calavassy and Mr Locke will keep the community updated in relation to these events along with any Combined Independent Schools (CIS) representative activities that have been postponed.

In the meantime, all participants in Winter Sport and cultural Co-curricular activities will be acknowledged in their yearly reports, and special awards will be presented to teams and individuals once we return to face-to-face learning.

Summer Sport Registrations – Senior School

Boys will soon be contacted to register their interest in taking part in the 2021/22 Summer Sporting Program. Please ensure you find time to discuss your son’s intent with him prior to his registering. I would also ask that you note the following:

When boys indicate they are going to participate in a summer sporting activity, they are making a binding commitment.

In essence, they are to attend all training sessions and games. Boys who are injured are expected to support their teammates at Saturday fixtures if the match is played in the Sydney Metropolitan area.  Travelling a distance to games or training is a necessary part of this commitment.

A part-time job or outside tuition sessions are not acceptable excuses for non-attendance.

Furthermore, it is the expectation that a boy will play for the College in a sport rather than play in an outside team, should a clash of times occur.
