Fossils of Bayside

At the end of Term 2, the Year 9 and 10 DNA to Dinosaur class participated in a ‘Fossils of Bayside’ incursion. We were very lucky to have Ben Francishelli, a Vertebrate Palaeontologist, present to our students on the 'Lost World of Bayside Fossils’. Ben presented his current research into the fossils found at Beaumaris Bay, including giant sperm whales, megalodons, ancient sharks, giant pelicans and giant marsupials.

It was great to hear from an expert in the field with his stories of finding fossils diving at our local beaches and connecting this to how the species may have lived and interacted millions of years ago. Ben also brought in an extensive collection of fossils from these species for students to view and handle.
