Planet Ark's National Tree Day

Friday 30th July 2021

Planet Ark's National Tree Day

Tree Day started in 1996 and since then more than 10.5 million native trees and shrubs have been planted.

Tree planting makes a positive difference to our environment and the benefits reach into schools and communities and also help our precious native animals and plants survive in Australia's diverse natural settings.

At St Simon the Apostle, we were fortunate enough to have been gifted a grant of $500 by Rotarians for Bees through the Victorian Schools Garden Program in 2020. This was made possible by the 2020 Year 4 students and their Inquiry learning into Bees and Pollinators and the  importance pollinators play in our food chain and therefore in our lives.

Mrs Solari and Mrs Rayner with trolleys of plants at Gardenworld. Special thanks again to Rotarians For Bees for making this possible.

On Friday 30th July,  we will be planting mostly flowering fruit trees, native shrubs and indigenous herbs. Our focus will be on attracting pollinators to our garden as well as raising awareness of our Catholic Social Teaching to be Stewards of Creation and care for this beautiful world God has given us.

Stay tuned for more information as we continue to work with our students to transform our garden/chicken area.
