CAMP MARYSVILLE ACTIVITIES
Canoeing – ‘Wild About Water’
Using the neighbouring dam, students are taught the concepts of water safety in the aquatic environment. Participants will play a range of games and activities with canoes on the dam designed to increase their confidence and skills in the water & promote positive relationships with other students.
*Bringing old clothes and shoes that can get wet is a must for this activity.
Big Trees & River Walk
Big trees and river walk is an interactive journey encompassing ‘way stations’ to encourage exploration, discussion and learning about natural systems, habitat and human impact. These activities have been designed to foster wellbeing, individual thinking & listening and sharing of ideas within a group. As the individual explores and engages with the river and bush environment this will promote understanding about conservation of the natural world, group cooperation, problem solving and teamwork.
Climbing Wall -‘Vertical Challenge’
The fundamentals of Top Rope Climbing. Including but not limited to; fitting climbing gear, belay techniques, back up belay techniques, climbing techniques, developing a system of climbing checks and communication. A session at one of the largest outdoor climbing towers in Australia, with both 12 metre and 18 metre options!
Low Ropes - ‘Balance & Teamwork’
A seven element initiative course ranging from balancing wires to spiders webs and problem solving your way across a lava lake. These activities have been designed to promote balance and motor skills, as well as foster growth in communication, problem solving and teamwork.
Mountain Bike Tour - ‘Two Wheel Adventure’
A journey on bikes utilising the surrounding forest tracks. This will include a bike skill development session before the ride begins.
Grow it, Cook it
The aim of this session is to create real, sustainable change and it’s as simple as providing people with the knowledge and skills to feed themselves better, act locally, understanding where your water comes from & where your waste goes, questions consumerism and packaging. We discuss the possibilities of embracing change, trying something new and choosing curiosity over certainty in food, art & life. We hope to Educate, Empower, Inspire & Nourish our participants by spending time gardening, cooking & sharing a meal together!
Accommodation
Camp Marysville is laid out in ‘sub camps’, each comprising a central teacher’s lodge surrounded by a number of student cabins (each sleeping 6 – 8) in a loosely fenced community. This helps each group to develop its own sense of ‘home’ while still being a part of the larger camp community. All lodges and cabins have reverse cycle air-conditioning/heating and ensuite toilet and shower (no need for students to leave their cabin to visit a remote ablutions block during the night).
Dining
The suppliers and kitchen staff grow and prepare your food with care and respect, we hope that this is evident when you taste our delicious meals. We aim to educate, empower and inspire students and groups by gardening, cooking, eating and completing the cycle together. We look forward to sharing our knowledge and skills with you and your students so they have the tools to make better food choices for themselves and their families.
