What’s been happening at SASC

Maths Games Day

On Wednesday the 30 July two Teams of Year 8 Students competed in the Annual Maths Games Day held at Penleigh and Essendon Grammar.

These students were mainly chosen from the Year 8 Extension Program as a reward for their excellent work so far this year. The program for the day started with an introduction to the day by the principal Mr Tony Larkin. Tony challenged the students to think critically and to relish the opportunity of competing against the very best.

The format for the day involved two team games and three individual puzzles. Nam Tran, Natalie Truong, Vi Bui and Caelun Xie made up one team, while Daniel San Jose, Cindy Tran, Vincent Pham and Tung Huy Do formed the other. The day demanded the eight students were tested academically and they displayed an excellent sense of teamwork, knowledge and determination.

A fantastic reward for the effort these students have displayed throughout this year.

Gardening Club

You may have seen us around; the “green thumbs” who carry vegetation around the school, ranging from bags of greenery, boxes of tomatoes to bouquets of parsley. Located by the gymnasium, the gardening club meets every Monday and Thursday lunchtime to tend to the plots, harvest and undertake the occasional construction project. You reap what you sow and this is literally true for the club. Members are more than welcome to take a share of our produce.

At the moment, our gardens are flourishing with brussels sprouts, cabbages, kale, spring onions, leeks, garlic and a variety of herbs. As spring nears, a new season for planting arrives. We’re a small, friendly club and new members are always welcome.

On behalf of the club, I would also like to extend a special thank-you to Mr DeGabriele for his hard work and commitment to the club over the past few years.
