Senior School Report

We are now half way through Term 3, and have already had some exciting events with more to come. Our teachers have worked on their Year 11 Progress Reports this week, which our Year Level Coordinators use to monitor student progress and phone home to parents as required.
Year11 Progress Reports will be available for parents to read on the Parent Portal on SAMS by Friday 21/8/15 – end of Term 3 Week 6.
Year 12 Progress Reports will be available for parents to read on the Parent Portal on SAMS by Friday 28/8/15 – end of Term 3 Week 7.
Coordinators will again contact parents as required to discuss any concerns we may have become aware of.
On Wednesday 29/7/15, the Senior Sub School team ran an Information Night for Parents and Students transitioning from Year 11 into our 2016 Year 12 Cohort. This evening was extremely well attended, with almost all families represented. Many thanks to our Careers and Pathways staff for their valuable presentation on the night. Later in that week on Friday 31/7/15, we ran a Year 12 Assembly at which we presented Certificates of Excellence to our Year 12 MAC (Music Appreciation Club) for their outstanding contribution to the school production this year.

We have a number of ABCN programs running currently. On Tuesday 28 July, Warkaw Adamassu was one of our ABCN scholarship students, who flew to Sydney for a facilitated coaching session. The students were all very excited and looking forward to their first interstate trip and first trip flying independently.

On Friday 14/8/15 our senior school coordinators took eight Year 11 girls into the city offices of Norton Rose Fulbright – at the RACV Tower, 485 Bourke St Melbourne - for the second session of their “ABCN Focus Mentoring Program for girls”. The girls continued work on developing their ideas around the qualities of leadership. They are looking at different female leaders they admire from any field of endeavour such as sports, politics, academia, business, religion, community, family, science, medicine, volunteering, charity, IT, arts, music, literature or performance.

Senior female executives from Norton Rose Fulbright are continuing to work with our girls as their mentors, and our students are documenting their progress in a learning which they write up throughout the program. This mentoring initiative has been a huge success over the past couple of years and we are very excited about this year’s program.
Our next Parent Teacher Interviews are scheduled for Week 8 this term on Tuesday 1 September. We encourage all parents to come along and discuss their child’s progress in VCE or VCAL fully with the class teachers on that afternoon. Students can start making appointments after Tuesday 19 August with their class teachers, when the booking sheets become available. Please encourage your child to book a time for you, as the Coordinators will be visiting classrooms to confirm that these appointments have been made. We look forwards to meeting with you to discuss your child’s progress.
Enrichment programs for Year 12 students have been running in English, Accounting, Business Management, Maths Methods, Specialist Mathematics, and History of Revolutions.
For our Year 11 students, we have running tutoring sessions in the Library afterschool for English on Tuesdays and Psychology on Wednesdays.
Please be advised that there will be Practice Exams in all Year 12 classes during the September holidays. The full end-of-year VCAA exam timetable for Year 12 exams can be viewed on the VCAA website through the following link:

On Friday 14th August the College Youth Day was organised by the SRC with huge support from the Year 12 VCAL class. There was a fantastic selection of activities and food, including a sausage sizzle, an ice-cream van, a bounce house, face painting, hairspray and fake tattoos, a movie-hamper raffle, a lolly-jar guessing competition, popcorn and fairy floss, and phot booth. See following some photos of our fantastic Year 12 VCAL students at work.

Many thanks to the parents who contact us when their child is absent for any reason. This is of great assistance to the Year Level Coordinators, as we will call home regularly if there are any unexplained absences for your child. The Case Management process continues to monitor closely the attendance, achievement and individual needs of all our students. Please contact us on 9366. 2555 if you have any queries or concerns about the progress of your child.
