Medibank Careers Day
Every year, the first 25 students in Yr 11 or 12 VCAL who fill in and hand in their forms get to go visit the Medibank (health insurance) building that will help students to build their aspirations to succeed in their career pathways/lives. This year, the excursion ran for two days- 10th and 12th of August from 10:00pm to 2:00pm. Students travelled to and from by bus.
Yr 12 VCAL Student report - by Dung Huynh
On the 5th of August my Work Related Skills teacher (Ms Gough) handed out booklets about Medibank Careers Day to the students who are going to attend to Medibank Careers Day. The booklet gave us information such as the purpose of the day, a two-day schedule of the program, conversation starters’ questions and handy tips for students to remember for the careers days. This is my second time visiting Medibank and I am still excited for it.
What I liked about the excursion:
- Three of Medibank’s staff members’ career pathways stories. Their stories were unique, funny, interesting, they gave me a lot of advice, they had very great quotes and most importantly. I really appreciate Jason and Debbie’s 20-25 minutes of talking about their career pathways.
- How we made posters about what we learnt from the excursion instead of filling out an evaluation sheet. It was a very creative and fun idea.
What I didn’t like about the excursion:
- Nothing.
How/what the excursion should improve on:
- Nothing because they’ve already made it better on the second day with the career pathway stories and more options with lunch.
Year 11 Work Related Skills
Students in their work related skills classes are working towards completing their unit 2 outcomes by completing a work –related activity. This involves team work, planning communication and decision making. All of these skills are transferable into the work place.
Groups are busily working on a T-ball competition for year 7 classes, Fund raising activities for Daffodil day, an animated clip on racism that will be presented at an assembly an a VCAL art piece that will be displayed in Nindethana just to mention a few. So far the students have displayed increasing commitment to the projects.
