THE DOLL'S HOUSE IN 'OPEN HOUSE MELBOURNE'

The Doll's House owned by Collingwood College will be open to the public on Saturday, 29 July as part of Open House Melbourne.

The Doll’s House, built in the 1880s, is possibly the smallest house in Victoria. It consists of two rooms and is only 2.5 metres wide. It was occupied until 1978. At one time a family of five lived in the house. The first couple who lived in the house had a daughter named Lily, who died at a very young age. Collingwood once had a very high infant and child mortality rate due to bad living conditions. The Doll’s House shows the history of the working class in Victoria, providing evidence of the living conditions experienced by slum dwellers before strict planning controls. After a report in 1937, houses such as the Doll’s House were demolished to make way for Housing Commission flats. The Doll’s House was moved twice and ended up dismantled in the council yards with the council unsure about what to do with it. It was then decided to sell it to Collingwood College for $1, and it was rebuilt close to its original site in Islington Street. In 2013 the house was restored by a group of Collingwood College students as part of a history project. It now looks as it would have when Lily was living there with her parents in the 1880s.

FULL SPECTRUM TEEN PROGRAM

Full Spectrum Teen is a unique emotional resilience and Art Therapy based Adolescent rite of passage program for teenagers aged 13-16 of all gender identifications.

The 8 week program will commence in Fitzroy at artistic community hub Second Story Studio's in just a few weeks!

This program is ideal for young people that you identify as at risk of disengaging or who require additional community support and mentoring. It also provides a safe space for young people in search of new tools to explore their identity and to confidentially express their experiences of adolescence. We have found that this space to explore, release and discover aids them to focus at school and feel embraced and empowered in their evolving identity and choices. They also discover how to actively listen and support others through a powerful life transition.

Full Spectrum Teen has run over 15 programs of this sort in schools and youth organisations over the last 5 years with key outcomes identified through our participant feedback and evaluation process:

·         increased engagement with school, passions & other students

·         trust & belonging

·         emotional resilience & self advocacy

·         increased capacity to utilize tools for challenging life experiences, thoughts and behaviours

·         greater awareness of their innate value, gifts & inner strength

Cost:

The July public program cost is $260 per participant (less than $33 per 2 hour workshop).

I have one scholarship available to a student with financial hurdles.

Regards.
