From the Dorms

Junior Girls
It’s been wonderful to welcome all the junior girls back for a great start to term 2.
They’ve been finding their own fun during activities and all coming together as a cohort which has been lovely to see!
As part of the enrichment activity, most of the Junior girls enthusiastically took to using paints and brushes supplied to them to produce a painting - an opportunity to express themselves artistically. Below are examples of what was produced.

Senior Girls
The last four weeks have been strange. The Senior Girls area has been extremely quiet, firstly due to KCC Year 12 retreat then the enforced home/digital learning due to Covid cases after the retreat, and then the absences throughout the senior years of girls unwell either from Covid or other flu-like illnesses. While the quiet can be thought of as a bonus it was really strange to have so few girls laughing and chatting around the common rooms. The photos show there were some moments of fun though.
Here is hoping that the second half of the term isn't the same as the cold mornings and nights creep through the boarding house

Junior Boys
The nights are getting cooler and the boys are spending more time indoors. Books, movies, and video games are very popular activities at the moment. The boys have also been playing touch footy and basketball.
Covid has been making life difficult with several boys and staff away.
Well done to Jack Douglas, Rohan Day and Isaac Gooden who recently played in the Currie Cup.
It’s been great to see the strong friendships forming between the boys.

Term 2 is well underway and with Covid and the Flu running riot, it has made it a stop/start term for a number of students and staff.
We have a lot of footy codes kicking off this term with the major AFL comp the Carroll Cup in full swing. Mater Dei is represented by Will English and Ethan Watt, while Joe Morton, Jed Beavan, and Will Marsh have played for KCC. Good luck to all involved.
Matt Mitchell has been playing for the Wagga Wanderers (soccer) in the under 23’s side and coming off the bench for the 1st-grade side. While results haven’t been going their way, Matt is really enjoying playing for the Wanderers. If anyone has seen the recent footage on the national news of the kangaroos invading the pitch at Tuggeranong, Matt was playing in that game.
Harvey Hines has a big week coming up with him performing in the school band for Mater Dei’s musical Rock Of Ages. The musical runs for a week and Harvey is relishing his role in the band.
Ethan Watt has taken out the regional open boys cross country at Narrandera earlier in the term. This gives Ethan the opportunity to travel to Sydney to participate in the state carnival.
Good luck Ethan.
